Balcony Grill Notice

Fire Department Notice

Gas grilles and charcoal grilles are NOT allowed on balconies or the roof deck.

In fact, state law [527 CMR section 1.06(1)(a) and Section 6.07] prohibits the storage or use of LP-gas containers above the first floor of a building used for habitation.  This regulation includes propane cylinders attached to portable cooking grilles.

Charcoal grilles and LP-gas grilles may be used outside at ground level provided the cooking grilles are at least ten(10) feet away from the building and other combustibles.

Insurance loss or claims may not be honored in case of fire damage caused by illegal grilles.

Electric grilles are allowed and in case anyone is planning on buying a grille.

This information has been provided by the City of Quincy Fire Prevention Bureau.
